Countdown to Cyclebration 2010

The 2010 Folsom Lake Bike Festival, popularly known as Cyclebration, kicks off on Friday, September 10th for a weekend of cycling-related fun around Folsom and the Sacramento area.

More than a dozen events ranging from family-oriented rides to cyclocross and time-trials are expected to attract thousands of cycling enthusiasts to the historic town. Many of the events involve competitions, including the Dirt Jump Jam on Friday 10th at Cummings Family Park, and the Folsom Challenge Criterium, which takes place at the Lake Forest Business Park.

For road cyclists, the centerpiece of the Cyclebration is the Gold Rush Century, a famous and popular annual ride which takes in some of the best-known roads in the low Sierras. This year, riders will climb Baxter’s Grade, and visit the isolated and serene Bear Valley area. The Gold Rush Century offers riders the choice of a full 100-mile course, or the 63-mile metric century, a half-metric, or a casual “cruiser ride” of 12 miles around Folsom Lake.

For time-trial fans, this year’s Cyclebration will incorporate the Folsom South Canal TT, a popular informal weekly event held in Rancho Cordova. Erin Whatley of Folsom Bike shop has been organizing the 10-mile time-trial on an isolated stretch of the canal, south of White Rock Road, for several years.

For families, the Folsom Treasure Hunt, on Saturday 11th at 10am offers riders maps and clues to historic sites in and around Folsom before a prize-giving at the finish.

Many of the competitive events require pre-registration and small fees. For more information, visit the Cyclebration website.
